This 175-Acre Dairy Farm owned by Colonel Edward J. Baker, an historic benefactor of St. Charles, is now the home of Pheasant Run Resort.
1960s Resort Map
On February 15, 1963, Edward J. McArdle opened Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, IL. He was a developer with a vision who saw the area as the perfect location for a unique entertainment destination resort, where guests from all across Chicagoland would feel as though they escaped the city.

Canoeing on Lake McArdle
Pheasant Run Resort opened in 1963, welcoming guests from near and far with long scenic walks around the 250-acre grounds, 18 holes of golf, indoor/outdoor swimming, and canoeing along Lake McArdle.
1960s Bi-Level Suite
When the resort opened it featured a pristine 18-hole golf course, complete with corresponding Golf Wing Bi-Level Suites.
Original Bourbon Street Re-creation
A truly unique feature of our resort is the indoor replica of Bourbon Street. Inspired by the Chicago Streetscape at The Museum of Science and Industry, McArdle created his own version with a brick-laid replica of New Orleans' most famous throughway. Home to many shops and restaurants, live bands perform here every Friday and Saturday night to this day.
1960s Resort Shopping
What used to be the walkway between the barn and farmhouse became our indoor replica of Bourbon Street, a two-block stretch of two-story buildings with a number of shops and restaurants.
First Indoor/Outdoor Pool
The first Indoor/Outdoor Pool in the United States was right here at the Run, where past and present guests enjoy swimming all year in carefully regulated 80-degree water.

Original Resort Golf Course
Our 18-hole golf course boasts a par-72 championship caliber layout, with tree-lined fairways, pristine lakes and carefully manicured greens. A Maddox design, the course has received top honors and industry recognition for both design and competitive play. Our signature Par-5 first hole is considered among the most challenging in the Midwest.
Baker's Wife Restaurant
Housed in the repurposed original barn, Baker's Wife restaurant served upscale dinners of the finest beef, poultry, game, and seafood.
1960s Weekend Getaway
Pheasant Run Resort quickly became the perfect setting for weekend getaways and corporate retreats outside the hustle and bustle of Chicago.
The Peg & Plank Restaurant
After finishing nine holes and waiting to dine at The Peg & Plank Restaurant, guests might enjoy a drink at the Clubhouse Lounge.

Original Resort Dinner Theater
In 1964, Pheasant Run Resort opened its first dinner theater, The Pheasant Run Playhouse. The space turned to Broadway musicals in 1988, followed by a $4.5 million renovation in 2002. Now a state-of-the-art facility with 320 tiered seats, Mainstage Theater is brought to life again by Onesti Entertainment as Arcada Family Theatre.
Carl Stohn, Jr.
Carl Stohn, Jr. was the founding producer of The Pheasant Run Playhouse, running the program from 1964 through 1978. The first star to appear onstage was dancer Mimi Hines, from the Jack Parr show, followed over the years by the likes of William Shatner, Betty Grable, and Bob Denver.
Smugglers Cove Restaurant
Smugglers Cove Restaurant opened in 1970, serving the best seafood and exotic gourmet dishes to our guests.
Our 16-story Tower opened in 1980, adding 200 guest rooms.

Another part of our 1980 expansion, the very first Fitness Center opened with state-of-the-art equipment and loads of style.
Mega Center Opening
The landmark of Pheasant Run Resort event space, our 35,000-sq-ft. Mega Center opened in 1985. Attracting large exhibit shows, concerts and conventions, this expansive expo center forever made the Run a premier event destination in the Midwest.
Zanies Comedy Club
Another part of the original barn, Zanies Comedy Club is the sister room of the legendary club of the same name in downtown Chicago. Since 1989, top talent has graced our stage in St. Charles, including comics like Craig Ferguson, Chelsey Handler, and Gilbert Gottfried.
Formerly known as Smugglers Cove, Lilly's Restaurant opened to fully embrace the vibrant energy and air of Bourbon Street.
With its variety of Steaks and Chops on the menu Prime Cut Restaurant was known as "The place for steaks".
Operated as a professional dinner theater for more than three decades until June 2002, Pheasant Run's Mainstage underwent an extensive transformation into a modern 300-seat theater-only facility. The renovation includes a new theater lobby; stadium seating for increased seating capacity and improved sight lines; new state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems; and interior and exterior redesigns. Chicago's Noble Fool Theater Company become the sole operator of Pheasant Run Resort & Spa's renovated theater facility in June 2003.
Located in the unique setting of a stylishly renovated barn, Harvest restaurant and bar specializes in regional cuisine with a gourmet twist, seasonal dishes inspired by the freshest of local ingredients and outstanding steaks and seafood. Here our motto is Farm to Fork!
The Tower guest rooms, Amphitheater, and Expo Center received major makeovers in March 2005. The project with its series of enhancements ended up totaling more than $24 million.
Jambalaya Restaurant, a New Orleans-inspired cuisine a perfect complement to the resort's Bourbon Street.
Fox Valley Repertory
Noble Fool Theatricals announced they would become Fox Valley Repertory - a name that better represented the strong bond they have created with their patrons and community, with hopes that those patrons would connect with their stories and begin referencing them as 'our theater' even more. Fox Valley Repertory is focused on creating an engaging theater experience by producing shows that inspire the community to laugh, reflect and reconnect to moments in one's life.

Pheasant Run Resort & Spa was purchased by Saint Charles Resort, LLC, a collaborative group of experienced hotel investors and operators and managed by Hostmark Hospitality Group.
