Vestra casts a spell on the baby, proclaiming that on her 18th birthday, she will prick her finger on a spinning wheel and die! Joan of Arc

Presented by Sigman Brothers. Joan of Arc, a French peasant girl, following "divine voices," led an army to break the siege of Orleans, crown the dauphin Charles VII as the rightful king and drive the English army from her country. Although Joan's military career lasted less than a year and she died before the age of twenty, she directly influenced the result of the Hundred Years' War. There is no evidence that Joan had any comprehension whatsoever of tactics, strategy or even the basic essentials of military operations. Yet in every battle she led from the front of the army, and although wounded twice, she remained in the most dangerous positions at the center of the battle. Interestingly, Joan herself recognized her worth as a symbol rather than a fighter and readily admitted during her trial that she never personally killed anyone in combat. Joan, in a mere six months of warfare, earns the distinction of being the only woman included in every list of the top 100 influential military leaders of all time. She, however, is no mere token. Regardless of one's feelings about "hearing voices" or women in combat, Joan left her mark, one that continues to this day. Charles the VII, who did nothing to save her at the time, ordered a formal retrial in 1456 that rehabilitated her reputation. On May 16, 1920, nearly 500 years later, Pope Benedict XV canonized her. Today on the 2nd Sunday of May a national festival all across France honors Joan as an enduring symbol of French unity and nationalism. MORE INFO

A fan videoed Brian singing at a club one night, and without his knowledge, sent the tape off to a Las Vegas producer. Soon after, a very surprised Brian received a telephone call while on the air. The caller was the world famous impersonator show "Legends in Concert", and Brian's career changed overnight to one of bringing Roy's music to the stage in a tribute to the Big "O" that is amazingly natural. Etude a Vampire Musical

Presented by Sigman Brothers. Etude [ey-tood] noun
1. a musical composition, usually instrumental, intended mainly for the practice of some technique
2. a study
Charles-Valentin Alkan was a French composer and virtuoso pianist. At the height of his fame in the 1830s and 1840s he was, alongside his friends and colleagues Frédéric Chopin and Franz Liszt, among the leading pianists in Paris, a city in which he spent virtually his entire life. Alkan earned many awards at the Conservatoire de Paris, which he entered when he was six. His career in the salons and concert halls of Paris was marked by his occasional long withdrawals from public performance. Although he had a wide circle of friends and acquaintances in the Parisian artistic world, including Eugène Delacroix and George Sand, from 1848 he began to adopt a reclusive life style, while continuing to compose - virtually entirely for piano. His Symphony for Solo Piano and Concerto for Solo Piano are considered among his masterpieces and are of great musical and technical complexity. Alkan emerged from self-imposed retirement in the 1880's to give a series of recitals that were attended by a new generation of French musicians. This is where we meet Alkan in Etude - what if he really didn't become the hermit everyone thought he was but instead was made a vampire?
Following his death (which according to persistent but unfounded legend was caused by a falling bookcase) Alkan's music became neglected, supported by only a few musicians. One of the reasons we embraced this musical genius was to bring one of the greatest talents of the Romantic period back to prominence and recognition. MORE INFO

Presented by Sigman Brothers. RUMPELSTILTSKIN is a fairytale popularly associated with Germany. The tale was one collected by the Brothers Grimm in the 1812 edition of Children's and Household Tales. According to researchers, the story originated around 4,000 years ago. According to the story, a Miller lies to a King, telling him that his daughter can spin straw into gold. The King calls for the girl, shuts her in a tower room filled with straw and a spinning wheel, and demands she spin the straw into gold by morning or he will cut off her father's head. When she has given up all hope, an imp-like creature appears in the room and spins the straw into gold in return for her necklace. When next morning the king takes the girl to a larger room filled with straw to repeat the feat, the imp once again spins, in return for the girl's ring. On the third day, when the girl has been taken to an even larger room filled with straw and told by the King that he will marry her if she can fill this room with gold or execute her father if she cannot, the girl has nothing left with which to pay the strange creature. He extracts from her a promise that she will give him her firstborn child and so he spins the straw into gold a final time. The King keeps his promise to marry the Miller's daughter. But when their first child is born, the imp returns to claim his payment. He finally consents to give up his claim to the child if she can guess his name within three days. When the imp comes to the queen on the third day, after first feigning ignorance, she reveals his name, RUMPELSTILTSKIN, and he loses his temper and their bargain. Come see how The Sigman Brothers put their own spin on this time-honored fable.  MORE INFO
