ALL of the ARTS, ALL over TOWN

August 28, 2018, St. Charles, IL - The St Charles Arts Council, in partnership with the St. Charles Park District, presents ArtsFest | St. Charles - ALL of the ARTS, ALL over TOWN - from Friday, September 8 through Sunday, September 17.  The event features terrific arts programming going on all over town.

This Week - Showcasing - Performing Arts And MORE…

ArtsFest features established performing arts events and participants, such as the Downtown St. Charles Partnership's Jazz Weekend, a show at Steel Beam Theatre (GIRLS NIGHT!), as well as a brand new Live Art Open House at The Keep and the Creatives Fest at Marquee Youth Stage's new building.  And MORE…  We invite the community to grab a brochure (or print one from the web site - stcharlesartscouncil.org/artsfest-2018/) and take a few hours - or even a day! - to wander around the area and enjoy:

Downtown St. Charles Partnership's  Jazz Weekend - a weekend of Free, Live jazz in 14 venues all over downtown St. Charles.  33 performances are scheduled in locations ranging from businesses such as The Wine Exchange to restaurants such as The Finery & Blacksmith Bar (also a Poetry Crawl location!), and ROX City Grill, to outdoor areas such as Mt. St. Mary Park (check out the sculpture exhibit while you're there!) and First Street Plaza.

NEW!  The Keep  - Live Art Open House.  The Keep is a coworking space that exists to build community among local creatives and inspire creativity in corporate teams, recognizing that art takes many forms. As part of ArtsFest, they are throwing an after party, Saturday, September 8, to celebrate art of all kinds, and the creative process itself. Enjoy food and drinks with interesting people as you watch works of art come to life before your eyes, and even join in with live collaborative pieces.  They invite visitors to come meet the community at this Live Art Open House. Enjoy art being made, meet new people, enjoy food and games together, and be a part of the action with interactive creative projects.  Doors open at 7pm, and all are welcome.

St. Charles Public Library "Tree of Life" Workshop - The library invites visitors to come learn about the fascinating artist Gustav Klimt on the 100th anniversary year of his death, and make their own painting inspired by his work. Art teacher Christine Thornton demonstrates the use of metallic paint and colored pencils on black paper for this fun, easy process.  Beginners welcome! Registration is required.

Mainstage Theater at Pheasant Run - The Mainstage Theater at Pheasant Run Resort invites you to relive the music you love during ArtsFest. Steel Beam Theatre - SBT presents GIRLS NIGHT!, a Revue of Broadway musicals written by women. Conceived and Directed by Douglas Orlyk, this wonderful evening of musical theatre is a compilation of Broadway show hits written exclusively by female composers featuring music by Carole King, Cindy Lauper, Betty Comden, Jeanine Tesori and music from Beautiful, Kinky Boots, On the Town, Fun Home and many more.

Marquee Youth Stage - there's LOTS going on at Marquee Youth Stage during ArtsFest.  MYS will be presenting all kinds of performing arts in their NEW and awesome location on Main Street, including a Music, Theater & Film Creatives Fest.  Events during the 10 days of the fest include:

LUX Dance Studio will feature an Open House with Live Music & Dancing during ArtsFest.  The Open House is scheduled for the 7th from 7:30 - 9:30 pm.

St. Charles Chamber of Commerce Design Contest - The Chamber of Commerce is conducting a cover design contest for their 2018-2019 Community Guide & Membership Directory. The top three winners of the contest will be announced after a round of public voting on September 14 during an Open House at the Chamber, an ArtsFest Event.  The Chamber will be open from the 10th through the 14th during open hours for visitors to view submissions.
The Open House/Cover Art Selection Party and the Announcement of finalists, is scheduled for the 14th, from 3:30 - 6:30 pm.

While wandering around town, check out the city's public art using the Art in Public Places website and the Otocast App, and also keep your eyes peeled for the Poetry Crawl - NEW this year to ArtsFest.  The Poetry Crawl is inspired by "poetry in public spaces" initiatives worldwide. These displays aim to bring creative writing into the public sphere, where it can be enjoyed by anyone passing by. For ArtsFest, poets from all over the world have be selected by jury to have their works put on display. Enjoy poems posted in kiosks and venues across the city between September 7th and the 16th.
